El día en que me convertí en mar

2021

This project emerged during a time of great uncertainty and conflicting emotions. The present was turbulent, the future uncertain, and life led me to live by the sea… to become ocean.

The Day I Became the Sea was inspired by the mystical beaches of Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula, the largest peninsula in the country, bordered by the Pacific Ocean, the Gulf of Papagayo to the north, and the Gulf of Nicoya to the south.

“They say that before entering the sea, THE RIVER trembles with fear… It looks back at the entire journey it has traveled, at the peaks and mountains, at the long and winding path it has carved through forests and villages, and ahead it sees an ocean so vast that entering it means nothing less than disappearing forever. But there is no other way. The river cannot turn back. No one can turn back. Turning back is impossible in existence. The river must take the risk and enter the ocean. Only by entering it will its fear disappear, because it is only then that it will realize that it is not about disappearing into the ocean, but about becoming the ocean.”

— Khalil Gibran
