Karla Herencia delves into themes related to technology, embodiment, and territory, exploring images that range from the everyday to the unsettling. Her project, titled Sentipensante Observatory, stems from an interest in experimenting with the expansive possibilities of art and painting. It involves observing and rethinking the process of situating oneself in a territory, engaging in dialogue about collaboration to overcome challenges and structural gaps, and challenging a history that has perpetuated patriarchal visions and narratives of explorers and traveling painters.

The Sentipensante Observatory focuses on the experiences and encounters that arise from moving and situating oneself in a territory. It applies artistic and feminist approaches that value the complexity of experiences, in which emotions, thoughts, data, dialogues, and intuitions all play a part.

The Sentipensante Observatory proposes thoughtfully designed encounters for the exchange of knowledge, considering the intersections and connections between art and everyday life. The project culminates in an artist residency at Bulegoa z/b with the observation of a constellation of experiences—a kind of collage in conceptual terms—that unfolds approaches and memories from encounters with local residents, artists, and cultural agents. Recognizing the links between the environment and people, it contributes to enriching cultural dialogue.

Presentation by Karla Herencia at the closing of her residency at Bulegoa z/b. Her proposal, "Sentipensante Observatory," was selected in the residency call of the Spanish Cultural Center (CCE) in Costa Rica. The residency program was developed in collaboration with the CCE, within the framework of its "Experimentation in Creative Processes" program, and in a two-way relationship, whereby an artist from the Basque Country will travel to San José, Costa Rica, in 2024 to undertake a residency.
