Visual Narratives: Empowerment and Resilience Through Self-Representation

Taking ownership of the narratives of our stories and bodies is an act of freedom. The objects that surround us are fundamental in constructing our narratives and powerful messages for our psyche.

This project was carried out through a series of workshops designed to provide spaces for reflection on representations of the female body and the culturally and commercially associated roles of women. Subsequently, each participant created a doll that represented key and significant aspects of their life.

The project was carried out in collaboration with the Women's Office of the Municipality of Heredia, Costa Rica, and included the active participation of various women's groups, including Women Helping Women, Senior Citizens Group, Mujeres Libres hasta el Fin de Guararí (Free Women Until the End of Guararí), Heredia Crea (Heredia Creates), Mujeres Artesanas por Media Calle (Women Artisans on the Street), Ecological Patrols, and Grupo Metamorfosis (Metamorphosis Group).

The project was conducted in collaboration with the Women's Office of the Municipality of Heredia, Costa Rica, and featured the active participation of various women's groups, including Mujeres Ayudando a Mujeres (Women Helping Women), Grupo de Adultos Mayores (Senior Citizens Group), Mujeres Libres hasta el Fin de Guararí (Women Free Until the End of Guararí), Heredia Crea (Heredia Creates), Mujeres Artesanas por Media Calle (Women Artisans on the Street), Patrullas Ecológicas (Ecological Patrols), and Grupo Metamorfosis (Metamorphosis Group).

Furthermore, it is worth noting that the workshops established dynamics to maintain a respectful and compassionate circle of women, safeguarding the confidentiality of all the stories of violence and trauma that were revealed and healed. For this, the workshops benefited from the collaboration of professional psychologists from the Heredia Municipality's Women's Office, who provided support and specialized guidance.
