Sentient-Thinking Observatory
Karla Herencia delves into themes related to technology, corporeality, and territory, exploring images that range from the everyday to the unsettling. Her project, titled **Sentient-Thinking Experimental Observatory**, stems from an interest in experimenting with the expansive possibilities of art and painting. It involves observing and rethinking the process of situating oneself in a territory, engaging in dialogues about collaboration to overcome structural challenges and gaps, and challenging a history that has perpetuated patriarchal visions and narratives of explorers and traveling painters.

The Sentient-Thinking Experimental Observatory focuses on the experiences and encounters that arise when moving through and settling in a territory. It applies artistic and feminist approaches that value the complexity of experiences, incorporating emotions, thoughts, data, dialogues, and intuitions.

The Sentient-Thinking Experimental Observatory proposes thoughtfully designed encounters for the exchange of knowledge, considering the intersections and connections between art and everyday life. The project culminates in an artistic residency at Bulegoa z/b, observing the constellation of experiences—a kind of conceptual collage—that unfolds approaches and memories from encounters with local residents, artists, and cultural agents. It acknowledges the links between the environment and people, thus contributing to enriching cultural dialogue.
Presentation by Karla Herencia at the Conclusion of Her Residency at Bulegoa z/b. Her proposal, **Sentient-Thinking Experimental Observatory**, was selected in the residency call by the Centro Cultural de España (CCE) in Costa Rica. The residency program was developed in collaboration with the CCE as part of their Experimentation in Creative Processes program. This collaboration is reciprocal, as an artist from the Basque Country will travel to San José, Costa Rica, in 2024 for a residency.
