Visual Narratives: Empowerment and Resilience through Self-Representation
Claiming the narrative of our stories and bodies is an act of freedom. The objects that surround us are fundamental in constructing our narratives and powerful messages for our psyche.
This project was carried out through a series of workshops designed to provide spaces for reflection on representations of the female body and the culturally and commercially associated roles of women. Subsequently, each participant created a doll representing key and meaningful aspects of their lives.
The project was conducted in collaboration with the Women's Office of the Municipality of Heredia, Costa Rica, and actively involved various groups of women, including Women Helping Women, Elderly Women's Group, Free Women until the End of Guararí, Heredia Creates, Craftswomen for Media Street, Ecological Patrols, and Metamorphosis Group.
It is also worth noting that dynamics were established in the workshops to hold the women's circle with respect and tenderness, safeguarding the confidentiality of all stories of violence and trauma that could be uncovered and healed. For this purpose, professional psychologists from the Women's Office of the Municipality of Heredia collaborated to provide support and specialized guidance.
